The Arab American Occupational Therapy Group (AAOTG) is a professional community for all occupational therapy students, educators, researchers, and practitioners who have or identify with, Arab heritage or descent in the United States. AAOTG aims to support its members by creating a welcoming and inclusive space where they can come together and share their lived experiences. The group also invites members to use this community for connecting, networking, and collaborating on professional, educational, research, and practice-related initiatives that can serve the Arab-heritage occupational therapy community.
The group welcomes creative thinkers, motivated collaborators, and compassionate members to create opportunities for supporting and elevating the status of Arab-heritage occupational therapy members. Examples include increasing awareness and dissipating misconceptions of the Arab culture, advocating for students and practitioners with Arab heritage, providing strategies and advice on fitting and belonging in the OT field, creating research opportunities to understand and serve the needs of this community, and advocating for patients and clients of Arab heritage in occupational therapy settings. The group is not a platform for sociopolitical debates and will not entertain extreme political, cultural, or religious views on any matter.
Mission:
To support and include US-based occupational therapy members who identify with Arab heritage or Arab descent and create opportunities for connecting, networking, and collaborating on professional issues.
Vision:
We envision an Arab heritage cohesive community of passionate, motivated, and creative occupational therapy members who can highlight the needs of its members in the United States.
